When Olga Osaghae adopted the role of the main information director at Howard University, she entered the role that was the same suitable parts and challenges. “It was just a Wi-Fi upgrade,” she thought. “It was about reimaginizing what education might look like in the world of digital St.”

The area was rich in history, its heritage Weven after decades of academic excellence. Under this legacy, however, it lays an aging IT infrastructure and exposes the risk of the university that it does not meet the standard of cyber security of the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), which affects their capacity for critical federal student assistance. The needs of the change were clear – – and that was just about tech. It was about the purpose.

From challenges to possibility

The turning point came during a strategic session with academic leaders and parties involved. The conversation quickly moved above the pain points – as a dropped signals in read halls or in silence systems – and began to explore what was possible. Osaghae knew they couldn’t do it themselves. At that time, the university turned to Cisco.

  • What if every student had trouble -free access to learning resources from anywhere on academic soil?
  • What if the faculty could use real -time data to adapt the instruction?
  • What if the university could become a model of how an “intelligent campus” really looks like?

“Our partnership with Cisco was not just about solutions – that was about a shared vision. They understood the extent of what we wanted to do. Even more important is that they understood why We wanted to do it. – – Olga osaghae, cio

Strength – and responsibility – ai in education

Artificial intelligence quickly appeared as an opportunity to change the game. It is used well, it could support faculties, streamline processes and identify endangered students. Osaghae, however, knew this kind of innovation cam with deep responsibility – and “power without responsibility is dangerous”.

To ensure ethical, transparent and responsible use of AI, the University World with Cisco to create a government framework. Educational programs have also been presented to help the faculty with certainty and effectively accept AI tools.

From connection to intelligence: Extension of vision

What began with modernization of the network soon developed into the transformation of Broade. Today the university examines the capabilities of Cisco V:

Lessons for other institutions on the day

She reflects the transformation of her uniform unit, CIO shared views of power for others who want to go on a similar way:

  • Define clear goals rooted in a unique mission of your institution
  • Evaluate and standardize your current infrastructure if possible
  • Prefer a security and part of the parties from the first day
  • Invest in change management and bring your entire community

Look forward: campus ready for the future

Today, the university is a live plan for what is possible when management, technology and purposes are harmonized. The impact is already visible – students are more interconnected, the faculty is more authorized and the institution is more agile when they face the future.

But for Osaghae it’s just the beginning. “The students will change the world. Our task is to give them the surroundings – and tools – do it.”

And with each class connected, each system optimized and every voice heard that the future was a little closer to every day.
